Singapore’s Marc Ong overcame a 2-stroke deficit entering the final round of the SPGA Cocoa Trees Golf Classic to fire a brilliant 5-under 66 for a tournament total of 9-under par, finishing ahead of overnight leader Nicklaus Chiam.
Ong has a long history of winning tournaments at Warren Golf & Country Club, with this being the course he played most of his golf as a junior. The golf course has always proven a tough challenge for the Pro’s during tournament play, however Ong drew on his local knowledge and experience when heading into the final nine holes, putting together a flawless 4-under par back nine that separated him from the chasing pack.
This impressive 7-shot victory at the Cocoa Trees Golf Classic sees Ong cement his position at the top of the SPGA Order of Merit.
In the Senior division, Mardan Mamat edged out Murugiah by just a single shot on the final hole to win with a 36-hole total of 1-over par.
The Singapore PGA would like to thank the tournament’s major sponsor Cocoa Trees as well as the management and members of Warren Golf & Country Club as host venue for this event.
